James's interests converge at the intersection of intellectual property and technology. He has worked extensively on patent litigation and trade secret cases relating to many industries, including from commercial spaceflight, LEDs, and printer cartridges to cloud-computing, online gaming, and enterprise software design. James has advised technology company clients on strategy for managing intellectual property risks as well as key product development issues.

Before joining Durie Tangri, James was an associate at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, where he represented Samsung in multiple patent infringement cases involving smartphone hardware, software, and design. He graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he served as Research Editor of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review and also as a member of the school's Supreme Court Clinic.
