Bethany’s practice focuses on complex technology litigation and all things cyber law. Prior to joining Durie Tangri, Bethany clerked with Judge Kara F. Stoll at the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and Judge S. James Otero at the United States District Court for the Central District of California. Bethany also previously worked for DLA Piper LLC as patent litigation associate, working with technology ranging from sports apparel to software to semiconductors.
Bethany received her J.D. from Stanford Law School. At Stanford, Bethany specialized in a variety of intellectual property issues, including as a primary focus the intersection of technology and the First Amendment. Working with the Juelsgaard Intellectual Property and Innovation Clinic, Bethany advised and provided legal defense for fan fiction writers, fan game developers, entrepreneurs, and open source innovators. Prior to law school, Bethany worked for a non-profit that helped people in poor and underserved communities all over the world set up small businesses.
Bethany is a tech enthusiast, self-taught coder, and strategy game maven. Outside of work, Bethany enjoys traveling to the world’s wine regions, getting halfway through marathon training, and presenting at conventions on the legal aspects of various science fiction and fantasy franchises.
